Our Services
Valuation, Exit Planning and EOT Advisory
Three connected services for UK owner-managed businesses: independent valuations you can rely on, exit planning that raises the value before you sell, and Employee Ownership Trust advice from valuation through to completion.
What we do
BusinessValuation.co.uk gives UK business owners a single, independent place to answer three questions: what is my business worth, what could it be worth at the point I want to sell, and how do I get from one to the other. Every engagement starts with the numbers and ends in plain English. We do not sell businesses, we do not act for buyers, and we do not dress up a guess as a valuation.
The work is led by Tony Vaughan, founder and lead adviser, supported by a specialist partner network covering tax, legal and transaction disciplines. That means one senior adviser is accountable for your numbers, with the right specialist brought in for each step of an exit.
Business Valuation
Independent, evidence-based opinions of what a business is worth. From a fast indicative range for planning and negotiation through to formal reports prepared for HMRC, courts, lenders and trustees.
Exit Planning
A structured programme to raise what your business is worth before you sell. We identify the value drivers buyers actually pay for and turn them into a dated action plan, typically run two to five years ahead of an exit.
EOT Advisory
Employee Ownership Trust advice for owners who want to sell to the people who built the business. Independent valuation, transaction structuring and trustee-facing reporting that stands up to HMRC scrutiny.
Other situations we advise on
Not every engagement fits neatly into one of the three services above. These are the transactions owners most often bring to us alongside their valuation.
How we work
- Free initial consultation. A confidential, no-obligation call to understand your business, your timescale and what you are trying to achieve. We tell you honestly whether we can help and which service fits.
- Scoping and fixed fee. Before any paid work starts, you receive a clear scope, a fixed fee and a timeline. No hourly billing, no surprises.
- Evidence and analysis. We work from your accounts, management information and a structured call, benchmark against comparable UK transactions, and disclose every assumption.
- Clear written output. Whether it is an indicative range or a formal report, you receive a written opinion in plain English that explains the number, the method and the risks, ready to put in front of a buyer, lender, trustee, HMRC or the court.
- Next steps. Where the work leads to exit planning or an EOT transaction, we map the path, the sequence and the specialists involved before you commit.
Frequently asked questions
What services does BusinessValuation.co.uk provide?
We provide three connected services for UK owner-managed businesses: independent business valuation (indicative ranges and formal reports for sale, tax, legal and lending purposes), exit planning (a structured two to five year programme to raise the value of the business before a sale), and Employee Ownership Trust advisory (valuation, structuring and trustee-facing reporting for a sale to an EOT).
Do I need a valuation and exit planning together, or can I start with one?
Most owners start with a valuation, because an evidence-based range is the foundation for every exit decision that follows. If you are more than two years from a sale, we usually recommend the valuation first and then an exit planning review that turns the value drivers in the report into a dated action plan. If a sale is close, the valuation and sale preparation work together. Either service can be engaged on its own.
What is the difference between an indicative valuation and a formal report?
An indicative valuation gives you a defensible value range for planning, negotiation and decision-making, produced from your financials, sector comparables and a structured call. A formal report is a fuller written opinion prepared to a defined standard for a specific purpose, such as HMRC, court or divorce proceedings, a lender, or EOT trustees, and it discloses its methods, assumptions and limitations in full. We will tell you honestly which one your situation needs.
How does EOT advisory fit with the valuation work?
An Employee Ownership Trust sale must be valued at or below open market value for the trustees to satisfy their duties, and HMRC scrutiny of EOT transactions has increased. Our EOT work starts with an independent valuation, then covers structuring the transaction, the trustees' evidence base, and the documentation that supports the capital gains tax relief claim. If an EOT sale proves unsuitable for your circumstances, we will say so and outline the alternatives.
Who carries out the work?
Tony Vaughan, founder and lead adviser, personally leads the valuation and advisory work, supported by a specialist partner network covering tax, legal and transaction disciplines. That structure keeps a single senior adviser accountable for your numbers while giving you access to the right specialist for each step of an exit.
